Sage-like genius or pretentious art-school shenanigans, two opinions which are immediately raised when artists attempt something new in the pursuit of ground-breaking work.
London artist Saam Farahmand will be creating a 3D, multi-sensory sculpture to represent the début album of up and coming band The XX. The sculpture itself will feature light and sound projections from three different visual units, with each one of these units representing one member of The XX. It will go on display at The Vinyl Factory in London between January 8-12.
"Music videos are a 2D visual interpretation of a song," Farahmand said. "We are interested in creating spaces that exist as a 3D physical interpretation of a song or an album, and that is what we have created for the album.
"It shares sensibilities with art installations but it should not be considered in this context – it is in essence a physical music video, a looping shrine to the album that you cannot compress, send or turn off."
Should you feel that the project falls under the category of 'genius' you can find out more information at the Vinyl Factory website.
