Tonight's BRIT Awards pretty much consigned the world of indie music to the underground once more, with barely a single award going to non-pop acts.
Kasabian managed to grab the award for Best British Band, despite not having released a decent album since 2004. Similarly, major label act Florence and the Machine won Best Album for Lungs. Despite being nominated, the likes of Bat For Lashes, Friendly Fires, Doves, Muse, Seasick Steve and Animal Collective were all overlooked come gong-time.
Lady Gaga took home all of the international awards, scooping three in all: Best International Female Artist, Best International Breakthrough Act & Best International Album. JLS, Oasis, Jay-Z, Dizee Rascal, Lily Allen and the Spice Girls were among the other winners.
Incident-wise, there was the usual furore over Lady Gaga's state of attire, something we'll leave to the fashion blogs to dissect. Liam Gallagher, appearing as a guest to collect the award for the BRITs Album of 30 Years (What's the Story Morning Glory) caused something of a stir when he failed to note his brother's contribution to the record and hurled the award into the crowd, causing presenter Peter Kay to brand him a "knob-head".
