Massive Attack have been chosen to take full control of this year's Meltdown Festival on London's South Bank, which takes place between 14th and 22nd June. The Bristol trip-hop outfit will follow in the steps of Jarvis Cocker who curated last year.
Speaking about the festival, the band said: "It's an honour to host Southbank Centre's Meltdown Festival and to be in such inspiring company as its previous curators.
"In addition to the music, we want this year's festival to have a strong political and visual element to it to reflect our influences and obsessions. Our aim is to mix it up a bit by instigating collaborations that make sense and probably some that don't."
Massive Attack will announce the line-up for Meltdown over the next few weeks, at the same time as progressing with their first studio album in five years - due out sometime in 2008. Throw in a probable appearance at Glastonbury, and Massive Attack just might be the busiest band of 2008.
