When the Smashing Pumpkins reformed in 2006 to write and record their 2008 comeback release 'Zeitgeist', it was only front-man Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin that remained from the bands initial 1988 line-up.
In fact Corgan and Chamberlin had to hire three other members to fill up the rest of the band for the aforementioned record and now, it would seem the worst has (sort of) happened.
Corgan has recently released a statement explaining Chamberlin's decision to leave the band, leaving Corgan as the only remaining member from the original line-up (and now technically the Pumpkins is just him by himself). Corgan also wrote that he will 'continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins' regardless of him being the only actual member.
Later this Spring, Corgan is expected to hit the studio to record the follow-up to the bands 2008 album Zeitgeist. Perhaps this new found loneliness will add to the genius that Corgan has in that freaky brain of his. Plus we're sure he can find some temporary and talented band members that are dying to be part of the Pumpkins experience.
