Like a mini-version of 'Indecent Proposal', 80's legends The Smiths have been on the receiving end of an offer promising them "ludicrous" amounts of money if Morrissey, Marr et al. agree to get together for one night of passion.

Organisers behind the Coachella festival are said to be brokering the deal with the aid of Morrissey's new manager Irving Azoff. The same organiser made an offer of $3 million back in 2006 to try and instigate the reunion. The offer for 2009 is said to be significantly greater than the previous one.

Despite the fact that Morrissey and Marr stated that The Smiths would never reconvene, this latest proposal has apparently knocked them for six and has lubricated the cogs of negotiation. "It has looked impossible in the past but suddenly it all looks like it could happen", a Smiths 'source' explained.

The Smiths all but ended in 1987 when guitarist Johnny Marr left the band citing a strained relationship with Morrissey as the cause of the rift, the band were unable to replace him and called it a day shortly thereafter. Marr currently plays guitar with the band Modest Mouse.
